Task 7 Student Task Sheet: Programming Practical Test

Assessment Details

Item Details
Course Year 12 Computer Science General
Unit Unit 4
Assessment type Practical test
Weighting 7.5%
Raw mark total 30 marks
Timing Term 3 Week 9
Test window Monday 14 September to Friday 18 September 2026
Duration 50 minutes

What You Will Do

You will complete a short programming practical test. The test will give you a scenario and may include starter code, an algorithm segment, a trace table, a test table or a code segment that contains errors.

You will be assessed on how well you can build, test, debug and explain a simple programming solution.

Required Evidence And Mark Allocation

The test is marked out of 30 marks.

Section A: Program Understanding And Design

Description Marks
Identifies the required inputs, processing and outputs from the scenario. 1-3
Selects suitable data types for the main values used by the program. 1-2
Uses meaningful variable names that suit the scenario and values stored. 1-2
Provides a clear algorithm plan using pseudocode, a flow chart or structured code comments. 1-3
Subtotal 10

Section B: Program Construction

Description Marks
Constructs a program that accepts the required input values. 1-2
Constructs processing that correctly uses assignment, calculations or comparisons. 1-3
Applies sequence so instructions run in a logical order. 1-2
Applies selection so the program makes at least one meaningful decision. 1-3
Applies iteration so part of the program repeats appropriately. 1-3
Produces clear output that is useful for the scenario. 1-2
Subtotal 15

Section C: Testing, Debugging And Documentation

Description Marks
Selects and applies suitable normal, boundary and/or invalid test data. 1-2
Uses a trace table or desk check to show how values change through part of the algorithm. 1-2
Identifies or corrects a syntax, run-time or logical error. 1
Provides brief internal or external documentation explaining important code or logic. 1
Subtotal 5
Total 30

Test Conditions

  • The test is completed individually.
  • The test is supervised.
  • You have 50 minutes.
  • You may use the approved programming environment supplied by the teacher.
  • You may use any teacher-provided starter file or code segment.
  • You may not use unapproved internet resources, messaging, generative AI, copied code or another student's work during the test.
  • Submit your final evidence through the LMS before the end of the test period.

File Naming

Use this naming pattern:

CSCGT_Task7_2026_Surname_FirstName

Use the correct file extension for your programming environment.

Before You Submit

Check that:

  • your program or code file opens
  • the program includes input, processing and output
  • the program includes selection and iteration
  • your variable names are readable
  • your test evidence is complete
  • your trace table or desk check is complete
  • your LMS upload includes every required file
