Task 8 Project Guide

Explain The Topology

Translate the floorplan design into a logical network topology.

Steps

  1. 1 Identify the WAN/internet side.
  2. 2 Show modem/ONT and gateway/router/firewall.
  3. 3 Use a switch or PoE switch as the wired star centre.
  4. 4 Connect APs and fixed devices to the switch.
  5. 5 Show wireless networks for clients.
  6. 6 Label ethernet, PoE, wireless and WAN links.

Examples

Core path

Internet/WAN -> modem/ONT -> gateway/router/firewall -> PoE switch.

Wired branch

PoE switch -> APs, cameras, home office dock and media devices.

Wireless branch

APs -> family, guest and IoT wireless devices.

Avoid

Floorplan only

No switch

Clients directly on WAN

No labels
