Task 8 Project Guide

Build In UniFi Design Center

Use UniFi Design Center to create floorplan, placement and coverage evidence.

Steps

  1. 1 Create a new UniFi project.
  2. 2 Import or recreate the floorplan.
  3. 3 Set the scale as accurately as possible.
  4. 4 Choose a network core location before placing Wi-Fi devices.
  5. 5 Label the WAN or ISP entry point, even if it is an assumption.
  6. 6 Place the modem/ONT close to the WAN entry point.
  7. 7 Place the gateway/router/firewall after the modem/ONT.
  8. 8 Place the switch or PoE switch at the network core.
  9. 9 Place access points only after the core path is clear.
  10. 10 Add wired clients such as office, media, gaming, cameras, NAS or printer where suitable.
  11. 11 Review coverage or heatmap evidence.
  12. 12 Adjust AP placement if major weak areas appear.
  13. 13 Capture screenshots or export evidence.

Examples

Core location

Garage data cabinet, utility room or central cupboard.

AP evidence

Screenshot showing access points and Wi-Fi coverage.

Limitation

Wall materials are estimated, so heatmap coverage is approximate.

Avoid

Only floorplan evidence

No scale assumption

APs with no reason
