Task 5: Externally Set Task (EST)

Purpose

Assess a representative sample of Unit 3 content using a task set by the Authority.

Task Overview

The EST is a 50-minute written task developed by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. It is administered under invigilated conditions and marked using the Authority-provided marking key.

Evidence and Submission

  • Completed EST paper under supervised conditions.

Conditions

  • Invigilated, time-limited (50 minutes).
  • Content scope is based on the Authority-provided Unit 3 list.

School Policy (Assessment and Reporting)

  • Missed EST: complete at the first available opportunity (generally within two days of return).
  • If after the Authority submission date: Deputy Principal Learning and Teaching determines if the reason is acceptable.
  • If acceptable: alternate task may be set (if no longer confidential) or a predicted EST score allocated.
  • If not acceptable: a mark of zero applies.
  • Absences: parent notification required; sickness/misadventure form for formal assessments; medical certificate may be required.
  • Academic integrity: no cheating, collusion, plagiarism, or AI-generated work; correct acknowledgment required.
