Purpose

Extension circuits are for students who have completed the core Simpsons House requirements and have time remaining in Term 3. They add challenge and stronger evidence, but they do not replace the core build, garage-door opener, testing or reflection.

Approval rule

Before building an extension circuit, show your teacher:

  1. what the circuit will do
  2. what components you need
  3. where it will fit in the house
  4. how it will be powered safely
  5. how you will test it

Do not use mains power.

Extension options

Level Option Description Evidence required
1 Extra room light Add a second LED or room light. wiring photo, control/test evidence
1 Porch light Add an external light near the front door. installed photo, on/off test
1 Doorbell buzzer Add a safe buzzer triggered by button or app. circuit photo, trigger test
2 RGB status light Use colours to show connected, offline or alert state. state table, colour test
2 Light sensor night mode Use a light sensor to trigger a light or status change. threshold notes, sensor test
2 Garage warning light Add a warning LED when the garage door is open. door-state test, safety note
3 Temperature/humidity monitor Add sensor readings as evidence or app/report data. sensor reading evidence, explanation

How extension work affects marks

Extension circuits can strengthen evidence for:

  • Circuit installation and digital system functionality
  • App integration and state-aware user control
  • Testing, debugging, safety and polish
  • Evidence package, showcase and reflection

Extension circuits do not add bonus marks beyond 100 and should not be started until core requirements are stable.
